Five ways in which online tutoring differs from traditional face-to-face tutoring:
- location - the tutor and the students are not all in the same room, or even on the same continent
- time - the tutor and the students are not all participating at the same time, or even in the same time zone
- pace - the students are not all working through activities at the same pace
- interaction - there is more interaction between students themselves, and less interaction involving the tutor
- communication - almost all communication is written rather than spoken
